What this site is
Money Decision Guide explains the money terms that show up in everyday decisions ??the interest rate on a savings account, the fee inside a fund, the deductible on an insurance plan ??in plain English. Every explainer follows the same pattern: a one-sentence definition, the math behind it with real numbers, the mistakes people make, and a short checklist for the decision in front of you.
Who we write for
We write for people in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and the rest of the English-speaking world who were never taught this material. No finance background is assumed. If a term needs a formula, we show the formula and then work through an example with round numbers you can check on a calculator.
How we work
- Definitions first. If a concept cannot be explained in one sentence, it is not ready to publish.
- Sources. Rules and figures are checked against primary sources ??the Federal Reserve, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the SEC, the FDIC, the IRS, and official product documents ??and dated at the top of each article.
- Corrections. When something changes or turns out to be wrong, we update the page and note the change.
- No hype. We do not promise returns, we do not recommend individual securities, and we do not sell investment advice.
What this site is not
Money Decision Guide is an educational publication. It is not a bank, a broker, an insurer, or a registered investment adviser. Nothing here is personalised financial advice. See our disclaimer.
